It’s Time
June 4, 2017I quit my job (lol a casual retail job but it sounds more serious and y’know, cool) and bought a drone. I have a camera and a one way ticket.
I’m starting in Vietnam, in my short life this would have to be my favourite country to visit. The beer is cheap, the people a friendly, the food is grouse and most importantly the beer is cheap. I’ve never traveled to Vietnam without a plan, the previous two times have been group tours, one with school for the still baffling pretense of a geography excursion.
I have three weeks to get from Saigon to Hanoi before three weeks of relative indulgent luxury with my family. The journey from Saigon north is still largely undecided, We’re tossing up between hiring a motorbike and riding the Ho Chi Minh trail or trying to keep my life in tact and playing it safer on the buses and trains.
About a week out from the departure date I found out that one of my good mates has planned to tag along for the first three weeks. Arriving in Saigon and knowing that he had arrived 12 hours earlier and was already drinking at the hostel made the immensity of the first night of a big trip seem normal. Combine this with having three weeks with family and it’s starting to feel like my trip won’t get properly real until I leave them in Cambodia, a whole six weeks into my journey.
I eventually plan to head to South America, but the more I think about South East Asia the more I want to stay here. It’s cheap, it’s relatively safe if you have your head screwed on, and having already ventured through a lot of the countries briefly I feel comfortable in myself to explore them in more depth.
Stay tuned for photos, videos, drone shots and some more rambling words soon, I hope to keep this up to date over the year.
